Activated Classroom Teaching - Research

The Activated Classroom Teaching (ACT) model and pedagogies is the result of over 20 years of research. However, as with all things, and as is illustrated by one of the ACT pedagogies (Correction), this process is ongoing. As such my research, and the research of my students continues in this area as we try and make sense of teaching and learning in our digital age.

This page contains some of my published research. However, a warning is necessary. Unlike my book and other training resources, this research is not as easy to imbibe - I apologize for that, however it's the way of academia to reference everything, write carefully (aka confusingly), and argue comprehensively (aka verbose). Nonetheless, there will be some who enjoy this, so for you I share this content.

Short Articles

Here are some short articles that highlight some of the key issues and the ACT digital-age pedagog based approach to teaching and learning.
  • Why the worst thing we can do is train teachers to use technology
  • Is your teaching a modern form of "Bloodletting"?
  • The biggest mistake schools are making with technology

Book

Picture
The book "Wake Up Class"  presents the background, development and details of the Activated Classroom Teaching (ACT) model. The model consists of five easy to apply, digital age pedagogies. These pedagogies leverage the affordances of technology, resonate with 21st century students, and utilize effective active learning approaches.

Packed with practical examples, this book will not only show you what technology you can use, but how you can use this technology effectively in your classroom. Plus you’ll experience the ACT pedagogies yourself through the book, the website, and the ACT teachers’ network.

Without a guiding digital age pedagogy, we’re playing educational roulette, and the stakes are high – the future of our children.
