Creation Pedagogy Taste

Picture
The ACT Model consists of five active layers, where each layer is a pedagogy that can be applied in the classroom. In this section we will consider the fourth layer of the ACT model - the Creation pedagogy.

It's getting cognitively tougher as we climb the layers. You know the fear - if you don't you soon will - of being faced with a blank document and having to write something. It's one thing to talk about content or even correct content, but to create your own content really requires us to be intellectually invested. And then the best part, after putting in the effort, an artefact remains.

Creation Activity
Grab your smartphone or tablet and take a photo of any three things around you. It could be a chair, the screen, someone's smile...anything three things you choose.

Reflection
By doing this you have just participated in creating content. The most amazing part is that research has shown that this simple activity has had a profound impact on your memory. In fact creating content, as opposed to simply consuming content has been shown to improve memory by over 200%. Those three items you just photographed...they're going to be lodged in your brain for a long time!
Picture
Research results showed that participants who photographed a list of words compared to those who simply read a list of words, recalled more than double the amount of items on the list.
