Conversation Pedagogy Taste

Picture
The ACT Model consists of five active layers, where each layer is a pedagogy that can be applied in the classroom. In this activity you'll briefly sample the second layer of the ACT model - the Conversation pedagogy.

We live in a world that has been fundamentally changed by social media. No longer is content central to learning. Of course content is always vital, but conversation around content has now become more important. The soul of social media is conversation, and as such this is a powerful pedagogy in our digital age.

Conversation Activity
Here are four commonly believed myths about education technology.
  • Myth 1 – Training teachers how to use technology will result in better teaching
  • Myth 2 – We need to use technology to make our teaching more efficient
  • Myth 3 – We should only use technology if it is demonstrated to improve results
  • Myth 4 – Edtech vendors can provide us with the tools and guidance we need
Join the conversation. Choose one or more of these myths and share why you think it has been listed as a myth.

Reflection
There is a power in online conversations that in many ways transcends even face-to-face conversations. This is seen especially in how it allows for for multiple voices to be heard, while also leaving behind a valuable artefact of the conversation, which can be used for further learning. This is a taste of the pedagogy of conversation.
